My children objected at my wedding – Their reason made my heart drop
Losing that one person who meant the world to you is one of the toughest things. One day, you are thankful for the life you have and all the little blessings, and then out of the blue everything changes and grief and pain settle in your heart and your home.
Evelyn and her husband James were high-school sweethearts. It was from the moment she laid eyes on him that she knew he was the one. Their lives were filled with precious moments and laughter, and their shared home became their sanctuary where they raised their children.
Unfortunately, their picture-perfect union was crushed when James fell ill and died.
All of a sudden, everything felt different. Evelyn’s days were no longer vibrant and the home was filled with unusual silence.
As she was going through the old albums, she recalled the life she once had. She remembered their trip to Italy, when they wandered off in the streets of Rome and ended up having the best pizza they have ever tasted.
It was the little things and the big love that made their marriage a fairy-tale like.
Following his passing, she never thought she would ever be able to love someone again, but two years after his sudden loss, Evelyn met someone at a friend’s gathering. Michael was nothing like James, but he was a humble man with a heart of gold who taught her that love can be rediscovered.
After dating for six months, Michael popped the question and Evelyn’s answer was a resounding “Yes.”
Her children were very supportive of their relationship. They were even more than happy to be there for their mother, especially on her big day.
Jackson, who has always been a creative soul, helped with the banners. Harry was in charge of the food, and Oliver was arranging the flower decorations. Her youngest son, Ben, was making sure everything went smoothly. They were all eagerly anticipating the evening and the rehearsal dinner, joyful that their mother found her happiness again.
The day was a bit chaotic, but in a good way.
When the day of the wedding arrived, things looked perfect. However, there was something that bothered Evelyn. No matter how excited she was for the new beginning ahead of her, she had a hard time imagining that special day without her daughter by her side.
Sadly, her relationship with her daughter, Emma, took a turn for the worse following James passing. Emma accused her mother of killing he father because Evelyn decided to respect her late-husband’s wish who asked not to be resuscitated.
As Evelyn walked down the aisle, she couldn’t possibly imagine what followed.
When the officiant said, “If anyone objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace,” her four children stood together and said “We do!”
Evelyn and Michael were shocked. How could the children possibly say that when they have been nothing but supportive of their relationship?
As silence filled the place, James said, “Mom, you can’t get married without one person.” At that moment, Emma appeared in front of everyone. With tears running down her face, she embraced her mother and asked for forgiveness. Evelyn started trembling, her heart filled with immense joy. Her life was now complete.
She not only felt happiness, but also gratitude and completeness.
Although she would never forget James, the father of her children, Evelyn accepted that life goes on and that we should embrace the new beginnings.
