Touching video shows soldier home from Afghanistan surprising daughters during high school senior night.
Senior nights are all about school spirit and sports, but for two sisters from Cullman, Alabama, the event turned out to be some much more than that.
High school student Elizabeth Randau, 17, and her 13-year-old sister, Lilly, were attending senior night on October 26 when they their father, Sgt. Major John Randau, made a surprise appearance after returning home from Afghanistan.
The Good Hope High School senior, dressed in a short, fringe-adorned sparkly black dress and white boots, marched onto the field to hand a rose to her mother, unaware that her dad was hiding just steps away behind a line of cheerleaders.

Tears of joy: Sgt Major Randau ran up to his unsuspecting daughter, who burst into happy tears as he opened his arms for a hug
Welcome back: Randau embraced his daughter and kissed her forehead as the girl’s mother wept nearby
A moment later, Sgt Major Randau decked in his National Guard uniform ran towards his daughter, opening his arms wide for a hug. Elizabeth was stunned, embracing her dad whom she hadn’t seen for a year while he served overseas, as the teen’s mother cried tears of joy nearby. The happy trio was later reunited with the soldier’s 13-year-old daughter, and ran onto the field from the sidelines to greet her dad. ‘It’s great, just great,’ exclaimed Elizabeth.

Randau has been deployed to Afghanistan with the 115th ESB Alabama Army National Guard, stationed out of Florence, Alabama for the last year, leaving behind his wife and four children, Elizabeth, Lilly, eight-year-old Reagan and 18-year-old Alex. ‘It is good to be home,’ the Guardsman said while hugging his two girls.
