Tallest skyscraper in the US set to be built in a state that no one expects
A company just spilled the beans about their big plan to put up the tallest building in the United States, and guess what? It’s not happening where you’d think first.
Normally, when you hear about tall buildings in the US, you’re thinking about the place Alicia Keys calls the ‘concrete jungle where dreams are made of.’ Yeah, that’s New York City.
But hold on, New York might lose its crown soon. Right now, the tallest building in the US is the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan, standing tall at a whopping 1,776 feet. It’s been holding onto that title since it was finished in 2015.
Now, here’s the twist – a real estate firm from California, Matteson Capitol, teamed up with AO and decided they want to outdo the current champ. Initially, they aimed for a 1,750 feet tower, which would still be the second tallest in the US. But guess what? They’re feeling ambitious and just announced plans to make it a colossal 1,907 feet.
And get this, it won’t be in New York City. Nope, the city that might snag this giant tower is none other than Oklahoma City.
The CEO of Matteson Capital, Scot Matteson, spilled the beans, saying, “Oklahoma City is experiencing a significant period of growth and transformation, making it well-positioned to support large-scale projects like the one envisioned for Bricktown. We believe that this development will be an iconic destination for the city, further driving the expansion and diversification of the growing economy, drawing in investment, new businesses, and jobs.”
The whole project, called The Boardwalk at Bricktown, would include three towers standing at 345 feet each, and then the grand finale, Legends Tower, reaching for the sky. The height of the last tower is supposed to celebrate Oklahoma becoming the 46th state.
This massive development covers over three acres, with hotels, homes, workplaces, shops, and restaurants all packed into around five million square feet.
AO managing partner, Rob Budetti, chimed in, “We are excited to embark upon this pivotal undertaking with a carefully assembled team of talented and experienced architects and designers from within our ranks. Managing the intricacies of such a project, ensuring seamless integration of all components, is a significant challenge. Fortunately, this aligns with one of AO’s core strengths.”
